Learning Log for February

Upcoming Events:

Feb. 14th Valentine's Day
Feb. 17th 100th Day Celebration!
Feb 20th-24th NO SCHOOL: President's Week

We have made "mail boxes" and are working on delivering valentine's mail. We will be checking our mail boxes on the 14th and celebrating Valentine's day. We will also be celebrating the 100th day of school on Friday the 17th. We will definitely need plenty of parent volunteers for these events! :) Stay tuned for more information.

Reading: The comprehension skills we will be working on will be catagorize and classify and story structure:beginning, middle and end. Students will learn strategies to help them "read" such as questioning, monitoring and clarifying and summarizing.

We will learn the sounds of the letters Ll, Kk, Qq.

We will also be learning more sight words this month (is, we, here). These are words we memorize and do not try to sound out. They are the most frequently used words in our language. We will bring home little books that have these words in them as well as words you can sound out. PLEASE WRITE THESE ON THE JUST READ LOG WHEN YOU READ THEM:)

Math: Numbers to 20 and Subtraction

Social Studies: Famous Americans: George Washington, Betsy Ross, Abraham Lincoln

Writing: We are using our new words (I, see, to, went, like, a, and, go, can) to write stories of at least 2-3 sentences. We have a new journal with lines that will hopefully help our printing get a little neater. We would love to see the students be able to write the "perfect sentence" with a capital at the beginning, spaces between the words, and an end mark at the end.

Science: We will be starting our spring planting in the garden and beginning our Life sciences unit on animals.
